For the love of Schumacher Blue

Posted by Nicola McLaughlin on

When Schumacher approached me with about doing this Blue & White project, I was completely over the moon that they had asked ME. It was the easiest YES, but the only caveat, where to create this gorgeous Blue Rhapsody Room?
We are currently renovating a home which was far from ready to decorate and I went in circles around our house wondering what room to redo before we move out. Then it clicked, I called my mom and asked her if I could redo a bedroom in her house. She was thrilled.
Once the dreamy Schumacher samples arrived, which my mom absolutely loved, it was evident that we would be redoing the master bedroom. I sketched the room to give my mom an idea what my thoughts were and got straight to work.
We shared the news to my dad, who was very unimpressed with the idea of moving out of his bedroom for one month. After running many 56 mile marathons and a handful of Ironmans, with very bad knees, he said he wasn't opposed to the redesign but rather to climbing the staircase each day and living in my little sister's room.

My Design Inspiration came from a love for blue and white and being continuously inspired by the flora and fauna of the natural world, the vision for this room became a timeless yet updated, old world look by using a combination of saturated and clean colors.
After a very short month of taking down what was existing, patching, painting walls and trim, adding moulding, wallpapering, switching out light fixtures, installing a new headboard, side tables, installing custom window treatments with goblet pleats and the custom canopy with silk trim, it was finished, we just had to make the bed and fluff the pillows. We pulled off the most wild last install day, hours before I left for England.
It was so fun and such a happy room reveal for my parents.
The inspiration was executed by the chinoiserie muted blue and white wallpaper and the way it harmoniously paired with the ruffled silk tassels. The blue and white check used continuously throughout the room balances the delicacy of the chinoiserie, creating more drama and less fluff.
